Boat theft and vandalism are devastating events –but they’re much worse without the right yacht insurance in place. Make sure you have a comprehensive plan that protects your vessel. It’s unfortunate you can’t also install an impenetrable bubble to shield your beloved craft from harm, but yacht insurance is the next best thing. You should carry a yacht insurance policy that offers protection in the event of boat theft or vandalism, but we truly hope that you never have to use it. Take the following precautions to increase the chances that you won’t.
Here’s how to prevent boat theft or vandalism, boat owner.
Remove and secure any expensive equipment
We’re talking fishing poles, GPS devices, depth finders, your beloved insulated tumblers, and those polarized sunglasses. Whether your long voyage was to the sandbar or the Caribbean, you may be tempted to leave those items on board while you hop inside the marina for a quick bite. Don’t take the chance. Even if your boat is seemingly secure, theft can happen quickly.
Consider adding a boat alarm system with GPS tracking and monitoring device
Don’t forget that for a trailer, a tongue lock or chain around the wheel are great deterrents. Though it’s difficult to view, take pictures if your craft is vandalized. You’ll need to submit thorough evidence of damage and defilement. Do a thorough investigation of the boat –and then do it again.
Remove your keys from the boat
If you carry spare keys, do not store them in an easily accessible place on board. Do you know what your next step should be if you do discover your boat has been stolen or vandalized? Call us. Explain what happened. We’ll walk you through the steps necessary to ensure that your coverage does what it is indented to do –offer recompense. It’s too late after vandalism or theft occurs to inquire about coverage.
